Frequently Asked Questions

~ Your soap is more expensive than the ones I get at the store. Why should I buy your soap?

The "soaps" you buy in stores are very inexpensive for a reason: They aren't soap. They are cheap detergent bars. They contain waxes and fillers like talc and sodium carbonate that add useless bulk to the bar and create soap scum, harsh petroleum-based surfactants like sodium laureth sulfate and sodium laurel sulfate that strip skin of its natural moisture, industrial dyes and cheap fragrance oils that contain preservatives and solvents such as phthalates and parabens. Our soaps are made using the cold process method and contain high-quality, skin-safe, ethically produced, and sustainable ingredients.  We are proud to use Canadian suppliers for our soap ingredients which include natural plant-derived oils and butters, Canadian lard, premium Canadian-made fragrance oils that are phthalate, paraben, lyral and lilial free and top-quality pure essential oils, oxides and micas for colour, botanicals and plant extracts and natural clays. Every ingredient is carefully chosen to pamper skin instead of being chosen for its cheapness.

How do I order from you?

You can view all of the soaps we have currently in stock by visiting the Available Soaps tab. You can add them to your cart to keep track, but you can't check out from there. Please email us with what you'd like and we will contact you to finalize details and arrange your shipping/local pick up/delivery and payment. You can also send us an email or Facebook message with your chosen soaps. Canada-wide shipping is available for a flat rate of $15. Orders over $75 will ship for free. Local delivery is available in the Truro area for orders over $40.

Do you offer wholesale?

Yes, we do.  Please contact us via email and we will send you our wholesale price sheet and a copy of our policies.

~ What glitter do you use on your soaps?

We ONLY use biodegradable, eco-friendly, cosmetic-grade glitter.  It is made from renewable and sustainable plant films, such as eucalyptus cellulose, corn, sugarcane, potato, or beet pulp.  It takes approximately 45-90 days for it to break down in either soil, compost, freshwater, or saltwater.  This keeps microplastics out of our waterways and helps protect our planet.  It is also softer on the skin.

~ Do you accept returns?

We accept returns on unopened products in resaleable condition; the customer is responsible for return shipping fees and once the product arrives we will refund you your purchase price. If there is something amiss with your product after you open it, please contact us and let us know so we can make it right.

~ Do you sell soap by the loaf?

If you do not meet the wholesale purchase amount requirement but would like soap in bulk, we sell all of our soaps by the loaf. You will receive 15 bars with an ingredients list for $100.

~ Do you do custom orders for baby showers/weddings?

Yes, handmade soaps make beautiful and very useful baby shower or wedding favours (bonus: you won't find them discarded on the tables after your guests leave!) Our package includes your choice of scent, your choice of colours to match your theme and custom labels. Please contact us and we will happily discuss the options.

~ I don't see my favourite scent, can I make a request or suggestion?

Sure, we'd love to hear your ideas and may consider your idea for a future product!

You can also order a custom soap loaf made with the ingredients you choose, just contact us to find out more.

~ Do you sell products other than soap?

We have sold various other items such as bath bombs, lip salve, bubble bars, etc. in the past but are more focused on our soaps now.

~ Why are shipping rates so high?

Sadly, shipping in Canada is very expensive.  There aren't very many people and everyone is VERY far apart, so it costs more to ship.  We ship Canada Post Pre-Paid which is the cheapest option for our customers.

~ Are your products vegan and cruelty-free?

We have many vegan options available and only buy from suppliers that never test on animals.

~ Are your products gluten and nut-free?

We use oatmeal and also various nut oils (such as sweet almond) so no, we cannot safely say any of our products are gluten or nut-free.

~ Can your soaps be used by everyone?

Women who are pregnant and breastfeeding, people with serious medical conditions, those on medications and those with allergies should consult their healthcare professional before using any product made with essential oils or botanicals. Products should not be used on broken or irritated skin and are not intended to treat or cure medical conditions. If you have an adverse reaction to an ingredient in any of our products, stop use immediately and seek medical attention.

~ Your products look and smell very delicious... are they edible?

No, they are for external use only.  No matter how tempting, DO NOT taste or eat any of our products or their components!  Keep out of reach of children unless closely supervised by an adult.

~ What is the whiteish coating on the top of my soap bar?

This is soda ash.  It sometimes happens when oxygen hits the top of the soap during saponification.

We notice it forms most often on our soaps that contain essential oils and/or lots of botanicals.

Soda ash is normal and completely harmless.  It washes off of the bar after the first use.

~ What are the tiny white specks in my soap bar?

These are steric acid spots (tiny specks of harder soap). They can form when soaping at cooler temperatures (cooler temperatures are often desirable to protect the beneficial compounds of botanicals and some essential oils).

They are harmless and usually dissipate after the first use.
